Hello

Building industrial resilience post COVID-19

Impact on Industries

The COVID-19 pandemic has far-reaching consequences on lives and livelihoods. Public health services and governments continue to battle the effects and control the spread at the front lines. As several countries come out of severe restrictions, economic resilience is increasingly being explored through sustainable pathways and green recovery alternatives. Industries require a combination of rigorous mitigative and adaptive systems to define a new normal.

In India, about 80% of the industries are small and medium enterprises and they contribute almost 40% of the national output. Economic recovery for SMEs is particularly long and arduous due to their limited access, capacities and infrastructure. Detailed protocols with well-outlined operating practices and standards are crucial to resume production under the new government guidelines.

EHS+ Center’s Industry Readiness Protocol

The EHS+ Center, by the Institute for Sustainable Communities, has a long and rich experience in Asia working closely with the manufacturing industries to adopt cleaner, safer and sustainable practices. The Industry Readiness Protocol (IPR) package formulated by EHS+ Center is a comprehensive toolkit of guidelines, checklists and monitoring tools for industries to enable operations post the lock down. Each of these are based on the Ministry of Home Affairs, (Government of India) directives along with best industry practices.

COVID-19 Global dashboard

The Industry Readiness Dashboard is a visual format to understand the industry preparedness levels in different industrial clusters. It displays the prevalence of various industrial practices and precautions to deal with this pandemic. An update on the global state of the pandemic is also provided.

Assessing the industry's readiness levels

Industries can use our Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) to measure their current preparedness for resuming operations post the lock down. A detailed questionnaire on both macro and micro level practices and systems will help industries identify areas of non-compliance, take corrective actions and track their readiness score using the dashboard.

Detailed protocols and guidelines

Aligned with national directive and industry best practices, this Industry Readiness Protocol provides actionable steps for industry management to implement on their premises before resuming operations.  The IRP is based on the directives notified by Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. These measures outline the employee practices and responsibilities to ensure safe and smooth functioning.

On-ground monitoring and tracking

A robust system for continual tracking of industry’s compliance to the MHA directives is an important step in ensuring uninterrupted operations and overcoming the crisis. The checklist of essential on-ground standard operating procedures and work place conditions can be implemented as a continuous monitoring system by supervisors. These are derived from the directives notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
